چکیده
Propylene carbonate and a mixture of two secondary amides, N-methylformamide and N-ethylacetamide, are investigated by means of broadband dielectric and mechanical shear spectroscopy. The similarities between the rheological and the dielectric responses of these liquids and of the previously investigated tripropylene glycol are discussed within a simple approach that employs an electrical circuit for describing the frequency-dependent behavior of viscous materials. The circuit is equivalent to the Gemant-DiMarzio-Bishop model, but allows for a negative capacitive element. The circuit can be used to calculate the dielectric from the mechanical response and vice versa. Using a single parameter for a given system, good agreement between model calculations and experimental data is achieved for the entire relaxation spectra, including secondary relaxations and the Debye-like dielectric peak in the secondary amides. In addition, the predictions of the shoving model are confirmed for the investigated liquids.

Water dynamics in n-propylene glycol aqueous solutions.
The relaxation dynamics of dipropylene glycol and tripropylene glycol (nPG-n=2,3) water solutions on the nPG-rich side has been studied by broadband dielectric spectroscopy and differential scanning calorimetry in the temperature range of 130-280 K. Two relaxation processes are observed for all the hydration levels; the slower process (I) is related to the alpha relaxation of the solution where...

Thedensity(ρ) and speed of sound (u)of the binarymixture (diethylene glycol monoethyl ether (carbitol) + propylene glycol (PG)) have been reported at T= (288.15, 298.15, 308.15 and 318.15) K. The excess molar volume ( ) and isentropic compressibility deviation (Δκs) were calculated using the measured data. The obtained values of ( ) and (Δκs) are negative and positive,...
متن کاملRheology and Structure of Cornstarch Suspensions in Water-Poly(propylene glycol) Mixtures
Concentrated aqueous cornstarch (CS) suspensions are often used to demonstrate an extreme example of shear thickening rheological behaviour. Here, we describe the increased rheological complexity that occurs on the addition of poly(propylene glycol) 10 (PPG) to an aqueous CS suspension. The appearance of shear thickening/jamming, shear thinning, yield stress and near-Newtonian behaviours is dep...
